I don’t like it. I want my ‘03 back.
And this is the EX-L. Leather, cameras everywhere, power everything. All sorts of ways to distract you with touch screens. But it feels fat . And the build quality is poor. Like the 2016 Civic, it’s just too big. Hell, even the steering wheel is too fat, and I have decent sized hands. It does drive well, though, I’ll give it that. At least they’re letting me drive it for free.

That dovetails with
Ash’s experience
with the new Odyssey pretty closely.

Yes, I was remembering his post as I made mine. Thanks for the link, though. Now that I’ve got my hands on one, I’m going to go back and re-read his post. It was pretty exhaustive, as I recall.

Toyota Sienna instead?

Back when we bought the Oddy off lease, we looked at a new (2005?) Sienna. We liked it very much and, if we could have afforded it at the time, would have bought it. But we have driven the Oddy from TX to VA three times and from TX to CA and home via the Grand Canyon. I love it, and I’m investing in repairs to keep it on the road for a few more years. I guess I’m an old fashioned guy, and these new fangled cars with all their bells and whistles are just sensory overload. I want to drive, not look at cameras and touch screens. We just bought a 2013 Civic EX-L, and it has just enough tech to be useful but not too much to be overload. And it has a 5-speed automatic, not a CVT.

Also, I’m not looking to buy a new van. This is just a loaner while my ‘03 is in the shop.

It has a vacuum? Does the Toyota?

Not in this trim. You have to spend $40k to get the vacuum. Although the salesman who sold us our Civic said that the Odyssey is due for a refresh soon, which means that many of the top end options will start showing up in lesser trims, probably starting next year. I’m not in the market for a van. This is just a loaner while my ‘03 is in the shop.

That's an insane amount to spend on a minivan. I'd knock back a trim level if I had to buy one. I'm looking forward to the next refresh. Til then, I will be happily rocking my 2003.

Ours put us back $40k for a fully loaded 2012. I was going full Tavarish and trying to think what else we could get with that, and this is a short list: Audi S3 (42k), Dodge Challenger R/T Plus Shaker (38k), Audi A3 Sportbak e-tron (38k). The list goes on...

Highest the Odyssey (or any other minivan) can be optioned is about $47k. That's still a lot but it's not quite $60k.
